2004 Porsche Cayenne
What's Special About It?
Already on sale in the U.S. since the spring, the Cayenne made news again at this year's show with the debut of a V6-powered model, dubbed simply Cayenne (no "S," no "Turbo"). This is the first ever V6 offered by Porsche, but it promises that the Cayenne will still offer the kind of performance Porsche buyers expect. Rated to produce 247 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque, Porsche claims that the Cayenne will be able to hit 62 mph in just 9.1 seconds and achieve a top speed of 133 mph not too shabby for a relatively heavy SUV. Like its more powerful stablemates, the Cayenne will offer electronic stability control, permanent four-wheel drive and air suspension.
Why Should You Care?
If the Cayenne S model's considerable price tag has proven itself just too large an obstacle to get past, Porsche has conveniently provided the next best option. Dollar for dollar, a V8- or even V10-powered Touareg is a more reasonable proposition in our view, but that's just us. Ed Hellwig
