Porsche sells a lot of 911 Cabriolets in the U.S. (it's the largest market in the world for drop-top 911s), so no surprise that Phase II of the 991-generation rollout happened on our soil, with the automaker revealing the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. | January 10, 2012

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche plans to bolster its U.S. lineup with the addition of several new models over the next two years, starting with the arrival next month of the redesigned 911 Carrera and culminating in the launch of the new Cajun compact crossover in 2013.

The 911 hardtop will be followed in the spring by two new convertible versions. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet starts at $98,250, while the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet is priced from $108,950. Both prices include a $950 shipping charge.

To be formally unveiled next week at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, the 911 Carrera Cabriolet is powered by a 3.4-liter direct-injection flat-6 engine that makes 350 horsepower, enabling 0-60 acceleration in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 177 mph. The 911 Carrera S Cabriolet gets a larger 3.8-liter version of the boxer six, rated at 400 hp, providing 0-60 acceleration in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 187 mph. Both engines come with a standard seven-speed manual gearbox and can be ordered with Porsche's PDK automated-manual dual-clutch transmission.

Also due here in the spring is the 430-hp Panamera GTS, followed by the Cayenne Diesel, Porsche's first diesel model in this market.

Porsche said the all-new 2014 Cajun, a smaller sibling to the best-selling Cayenne, will make its U.S. debut in 2013.

Inside Line says: Porsche's product blitz is being driven by buoyant sales in the U.S., where the company expects to deliver more than 30,000 cars in 2012.

Does any one know when the 911 C4S Cab and Turbo Cab will be available in the new design?

The ZR1MAN is back after two weeks of sun and fun in Florida. All rested up and ready to go.

Just another Porsche for the ZR1 to beat up on. Why can Porsche at least make a car that looks interesting?

As a diehard Porsche enthusiast, this piece is really disheartening. The model rollouts are the traditional stalwarts, a small SUV, and an auto-only Panamera. Lame.

What about the the new Boxster/Cayman?? The small, entry-level roadster that's been rumored for years now?? A neo-928?? The 918, and a possible lite version to battle the 458 and MP4-12C?? Come on, give us the good stuff. You already have Panamera and Cayenne cash cows, how many more do you need?? Start focusing on sport models and stay true to your roots or you're going to end up like BMW.

Some companies should stick to what they know.  A diesel or Hybrid Porsche just doesn't make sense.  I'd rather see turbo 4's like BMW and Mercedes. Then maybe they could have a $50k car to sell.
