Tuner 9ff Teams With Suspension Specialist H&R in Quest for Speed Record

DORTMUND, Germany — Porsche tuner 9ff has a new partner in its quest to shatter the 400-kph (248 mph) barrier. It's suspension specialist H&R Spezialfedern, which has been on its own speed-record quest.

H&R is joining forces with 9ff on the GT9, a Porsche-based midengine supercar. To do so, H&R appears to have back-burnered its own 1,054-horsepower Mission 400 Plus edition of the Porsche 911 Turbo, which it displayed at last year's Essen Auto Show.

The GT9 will get chassis components and tuning from the H&R specialists. In addition, its twin-turbocharged 4.2-liter flat-6 engine now delivers more than 950 hp.

The partners plan to put the car through its high-speed paces this fall at the Nardò circuit in Italy, with the aim of topping 400 kph (249 mph). If they can achieve that, the 409-kph (254 mph) mark set by the Bugatti Veyron should be within range.

Thanks in part to all the advance publicity on the Internet — not to mention some carefully leaked images of the car in various development stages — 9ff boss Jan Fatthauer reportedly has already presold at least two GT9s for more than $500,000 each.

What this means to you: In the Land of Supercars, the GT9 ultimately may look like a bargain, considering the Veyron's $1.2 million sticker.
