WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling 10,119 of its 2009-'10 Pontiac Vibes equipped with the 1.8-liter engine and sold in certain cold-weather states. The recall is to fix a brake problem that could lead to an increase in vehicle stopping distance, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
NHTSA said in its recall summary of the problem that the Vibes in question are sold in or currently registered in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
"When driving under certain unique conditions in extremely low ambient temperatures, the intake manifold suction port for the brake vacuum can become locked due to the freezing of condensation resulting from positive crankcase ventilation," said NHTSA. "This could lead to an increase in vehicle stopping distance and a crash could occur."
The recall is expected to begin on October 23.
Pontiac dealers will modify the brake vacuum line for free. Owners may contact Pontiac at (800) 620-7668.
Inside Line says: If you own one of the aforementioned Pontiac Vibes and live in one of the affected states, contact your dealer ASAP. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Is Toyota Matrix going to be recalled? Don't they use the same platform?
