SAN DIEGO — RM Auctions is adding a big dose of Pontiac excitement to its auction here on June 19, with several offerings from the personal collection of Jim Wangers, including a 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am coupe.

Wangers, the automotive marketing genius often dubbed the Godfather of the GTO, is the owner of an anniversary collection of Pontiac Trans Ams. Also set to cross the auction block are Wangers' special anniversary editions of the Trans Am from 1979, 1989 and 1999.

The Classic Muscle & Modern Performance sale will also feature 17 Pontiac GTOs from a private Southern California collection. Headlining that portion of the auction are two examples of the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge.

One 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge set to cross the auction block has been restored by Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties. It is equipped with a 366-horsepower Ram Air III V8, a 60-inch rear wing, a hood-mounted tachometer and an AM radio. Pontiac followers may recall the famous ad slogans for the GTO Judge, including the irreverent "The Judge Can Be Bought."

The 100-unit muscle-car auction will also include 26 Corvettes, seven Chevelles, six Mustangs, five Oldsmobile 442 convertibles and a Ford GT.

Inside Line says: Here come da judge — and other beauties — as this muscle-car auction promises to be one of the highlights of the summer. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

I read about this article over on www.FirebirdNation.com and I would love to get my hands on the Firebird. Jim Wagoners was a true Pontiac enthusiast and he wrote on excellent piece on who killed Pontiac. It's well worth the read.
