Pontiac GTO Ram Air 6 Concept
What's Special About It?
This GTO shows just how much potential lies within Pontiac's revived street racer. Unlike the uninspiring production model, this GTO has the looks and the performance to back up its legendary name. Although it still uses a significant number of stock pieces, one look at this car in person tells you this is no ordinary GTO. Extensive reworking of the car's body panels gives this concept a much more muscular overall shape, with flared fenders, a ram air hood and massive 20-inch wheels and tires. As if that wasn't enough to get some attention, the car wears a hard-to-miss shade of orange paint that fans of "the Judge" model from the late '60s are sure to recognize. Under the hood, this GTO ditches the stock LS2 motor in favor of a more "appropriate" 389-cubic-inch mill that cranks out 575 horsepower. Various brake and suspension upgrades were also made to assure that this GTO could do more than just lay stripes in a straight line.
What's Edmunds Take?
This is what the GTO should have looked like when Pontiac rolled it out to showrooms last year. The more aggressive bodywork adds just enough attitude to make it look tough without resorting to ridiculous spoilers and over-the-top add-ons. Don't expect to see any of this car's modifications on any production cars soon, but if nothing else this proves that the GTO does have potential in the future. — Ed Hellwig
