WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling 38,444 2008-'09 Pontiac G8s to fix a defective airbag sensor, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"With the front passenger seat positioned full forward, the seat position sensor will cause a 30 milliseconds deployment delay between the first and second stages of the dual-stage frontal passenger airbag," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "In the event of a crash, this delay may result in increased head injury to certain front seat occupants."

The problem was discovered during validation testing of the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle, which uses a similar component, said GM.

GM dealers will reprogram the sensing and diagnostic module on the affected G8s. The automaker has not yet provided an owner notification schedule. Owners can contact Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668.

Inside Line says: If you own a 2008-'09 Pontiac G8, be aware that a recall is in the works.

There are only 38,444 Pontiac G8's in existance?

formerhpb; you might as well go ahead and buy that Dodge Charger because the chances of GM bringing the G8 back are pretty much zero. I don't think that GM really cares about selling a great cars if its going to be a low volume seller. I don't know if you saw the rumor on straighline, but it actually sounds like the next generation Holden Commodore might end up being some some peice of crap based on a global GM FWD platform anyway.

GM, you NEED to bring this car back!  If not, I will be forced to jump ship to a Dodge Charger.  I'd prefer to stay with a Commodore because I'm still loving this car about 2.5 years after I bought it.  Such a great car.  But don't bring it back as an expensive Buick.  It needs to be reasonably priced.  PLEASE!

Clearly, the G8 is worthless, so if they are any G8 GT owners out there, I will buy your car for 2 euros.
