DETROIT — Pontiac said the 2009 G8 GXP will be priced from $39,995, including a $685 handling charge and a $1,700 gas-guzzler tax. The first cars should begin reaching dealers in February.

The rear-wheel-drive G8 GXP sedan is rated by the EPA at 13 mpg in city driving and 20 on the highway.

The G8 GXP, which is being exported from Australia, is fitted with General Motors' LS3 6.2-liter V8, rated at 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, and fitted with a standard Hydra-matic six-speed automatic transmission. Even with the slushbox, the mighty G8 GXP rockets from rest to 60 in around 4.6 seconds.

Among the options are a Tremec six-speed manual transmission ($695) and a sunroof ($900).
