We'd earlier told you about Pontiac's plan to put dashboard plaques on the first 888 G8s. Now, Pontiac has decided to give away the 888th G8 in an online sweepstakes beginning this Saturday, January 26. And no, Pontiac won't skimp out on the car. Number 888 is a loaded, red GT version with the 362-horsepower 6.0-liter V8.
The sweepstakes is in conjunction with another of Pontiac's promotional activities, sports car racing. A G8 will pace this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona sports-car endurance race at Daytona International Speedway. Pontiac has been heavily involved with the race and the Grand Am series over the last several years. It provides engines for many cars in the prototype class, and supports production-based Grand Touring class entries that look something like a Pontiac G6.
The G8 also will be offered with a 3.6-liter V6 starting at $27,595. The V8-powered GT starts at $29,995.
What this means to you: There's nothing like a good old-fashioned sweepstakes to stoke the fire. — Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit
