LAS VEGAS — As surprising as it may be that the 2010 Pontiac G8 ST is still a go for production, its appearance at the 2008 SEMA Show was virtually preordained. Yet this concept version of Pontiac's sport truck isn't some outlandish drag car, but a preview of some of the ST accessories in the GM parts catalog.
The Liquid Hot paint on the Pontiac G8 ST concept is not a proposed paint code for the production sport truck, but the drag-reducing tonneau cover over the bed is indeed a possibility, according to GM. The concept car also features an upgraded interior trim kit that is under consideration.
The fender/tire gaps weren't particularly tight on the production Pontiac G8 ST shown at the 2008 New York Auto Show, but Pontiac remedies that on the concept truck by lowering its suspension and swapping in a larger, and apparently wider, set of 20-inch wheels.
Inside the G8 ST concept, there's red, red and more red. You'll find coordinating leather inserts on the seats, steering wheel and shift knob.
Although Pontiac has announced that both V6 and V8 engines will be offered on the G8 ST, it couldn't very well show up to SEMA with an overhead-cam six-cylinder. Accordingly, the concept has the 6.0-liter V8 used in the G8 GT sedan. It's rated at 361 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels.
Inside Line says: Considering the cultlike following the Pontiac G8 ST will have among mulleted gearheads, this concept strikes us as too subtle. — Erin Riches, Senior Editor
