DETROIT — Pontiac on Tuesday said its 2009 G3 will start at $14,995, including a $660 destination charge, when it arrives in showrooms early next year. The G3 is $2,875 more expensive than the base 2009 Chevrolet Aveo LS, its corporate sibling.

The base Aveo starts at $12,120, including a $660 destination charge.

The G3 is also more expensive than the base models of the 2009 Toyota Yaris and the 2009 Kia Rio5 LX. The base Yaris starts at $14,025, including a $720 destination charge; the base Rio5 LX starts at $13,975, including a $650 shipping charge.

The Pontiac G3 is equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 106 horsepower. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic transmission.

The EPA says a 2009 G3 equipped with a manual transmission returns 27 miles per gallon in city driving and 34 mpg on the highway. A 2009 G3 equipped with the automatic transmission returns 25 mpg in city driving and 34 mpg on the highway.

The G3 has standard air-conditioning, two side airbags and OnStar.
