LAS VEGAS — SEMA showcars, including a jaw-dropping orange 2001 Chevrolet Silverado with a chopped windshield, shaved doors and in-dash TV, are among the more tantalizing offerings at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas event. The auction, which runs October 7-10, also features some intriguing Pontiac vehicles, including a 2006 Pontiac Solstice Red Bull showcar.

The entire online car catalog can be viewed on Barrett-Jackson's Web site.

A quick perusal finds lots of hardware to tug at the heartstrings of Pontiac aficionados, which is especially timely as the storied GM brand gets ready to ride off into the sunset at the end of the year.

The Pontiac Solstice Red Bull showcar is a standout. It was used to support Pontiac's sponsorship of Rhys Millen's drifting team in 2006-'07, according to the catalog. The exterior is painted to match Millen's racing car and was mocked up with a front and rear fascia that "models those of a GXP." Details include a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and custom wheels used by Millen.

Another eye-catcher is a black 2005 Pontiac GTO SEMA showcar that comes equipped with a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 that churns out 340 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque.

The SEMA showcars up for auction are enticing. They include a 2004 Saturn Ion Red Line SEMA showcar tricked out with a carbon-fiber hood, rear spoiler, Recaro seats and a boost gauge on the steering column.

Of course, a long list of classic rarities dominates the auction. They include a red 1975 Bricklin SV-1 coupe with gullwing doors. The catalog says the Bricklin is one of just 2,854 produced between 1974 and 1976.

Inside Line says: Get ready for one of the most highly anticipated events of the fall. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
