1999 Pontiac Trans Am 30th Anniversary Limited Edition
DETROIT - Almost overlooked during Pontiac's unveiling of Concept GTO was word of a new, special-edition Trans Am model for 1999 to celebrate that nameplate's 30th Anniversary. GM officials offered cake to journalists who strolled past a 30th Anniversary edition Trans Am on display in a relatively quiet corner of the Pontiac show area. While details were promised at a later date, this limited-run '99 package looks much like previous Anniversary edition Trans Ams. To mirror the original 1969 model, a fully loaded Firebird is optioned out in Trans Am guise and again offered in white with special blue hood stripes, interior trim and unique badging.
One standout feature for the 1999 version, however, is a special finish on the wheels. In place of the regular-production Trans Am chrome wheels are a set of trick, tinted blue-chrome five-spokes that glisten with an eerie bluish hue.
We should begin seeing Trans Am 30th Anniversary edition models in dealer showrooms this spring. As in past anniversary model years, expect the couple-thousand or so run to be sold at or above sticker price and snapped up quickly by collectors and Pontiac muscle-car lovers.
