RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Peugeot is launching a compact truck, the Hoggar, that is aimed at bringing "a touch of seduction and emotion to the world of pickups."
Borrowing a name from a 2003 concept dune buggy, the Hoggar pickup was designed in Brazil for the local market, Peugeot says. It goes into production shortly at the company's Porto Real factory here.
The newest member of Peugeot's 207 compact range, the Hoggar is targeted at a mostly male audience "looking for a versatile vehicle with a distinctive style," according to the manufacturer.
With a payload capacity of 1,635 pounds, the Hoggar comes in three trim levels and will be offered with a choice of 1.4- and 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines.

An ugly front-end that only a mother could love. Inappropriate feminine side styling that doesn't denote strength, something most trucks aspire to project as that's what many customers are looking for in a truck (even a small car-based pickup).

When you live in an area where you typically drive below 50-60 KPH (that rights KPH, not MPH) you don't need a huge engine. And, many people need a truck to haul lots of small stuff, but maybe nothing really heavy.

Anyone wanna put 1,600 lbs. of stuff in a truck with a 1.4 liter engine? On your mark, get set, EPIC FAIL!

To call this a pick up is pushing it. A UTE? Fine but a pickup even a compact one no this doesn't fall in to that class.

jlcii:
This pickup is considerably smaller than the Holden Commodore based pickup (ute),
and has no relation to Holden or GM.
This type of vehicle is very popular in Brazil.
Most car manufacturers there (VW, Fiat, GM, Ford, etc) have similar "baby" pickups.

Is this based off the Ute by Holden? It looks similar.
