PARIS — Gilles Vidal has been named design director for Automobiles Peugeot, reporting to Jean-Pierre Ploué, design director for the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group.
A graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Vevey, Switzerland, Vidal most recently headed the team that created the quirky Peugeot BB1 all-electric concept.
Vidal joined Peugeot in 1996 and has been working on the creation of a new identity for the brand, to be formally unveiled in early January.
Inside Line says: Vidal's work appears to embrace the best of French taste and creativity in styling. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

I've never seen an attractive French car ever. You'd think that a country that borders both Germany and Italy would at least copy their automotive style. I doubt Gilles Vidal will do anything to change the French reputation for producing weird, ugly, and goofy looking cars. At least Peugeot isn't as bad as Renault or Citroen. Bugatti's were the only beautiful French cars (before it was reincarnated in 1987).
