GENEVA — Peugeot continues to expand its compact 308 family with a new wagon, the 308SW, and a hot hatch, the 308GT THP 175.

The 308SW joins a parade of new family haulers at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show, including Audi's A4 Avant and the latest version of the Mazda 6 wagon.

Replacing the 307SW, the new Peugeot wagon is larger on the outside and roomier inside, with an oversize panoramic glass roof and seating for up to seven.

The 308SW comes with a choice of four-cylinder gas or diesel engines, including a 1.6-liter unit that makes 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, as well as a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbodiesel rated at 136 hp and 260 lb-ft. Transmission choices include five- and six-speed manuals and four- and six-speed automatics.

The hatchback 308GT THP 175 is so named for its engine, a turbocharged 1.6-liter THP unit co-developed with BMW that makes 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque and is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Unique tweaks include a revised front fascia, a rear spoiler, lower ride height, a sport steering wheel, plus aluminum pedals and gearshift knob.

The 308GT THP 175 goes on sale in April across Europe.
