Diesel-electric hybrids have yet to catch the public's fancy, but Peugeot's system sounds intriguing, at least on paper. The 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine makes 110 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque and is paired with a 20-hp electric motor that adds 96 lb-ft of torque.
The buzz in Europe has the French automaker readying a production version of the diesel-electric powertrain for the 308 range and other models by 2010.
What this means to you: We're still waiting for some brave manufacturer to offer a diesel-electric hybrid in the States.
