What's Special About It?
This high-performance version of the standard Esperante features subtle additions to the car's already striking bodywork along with several changes under the skin that add an even higher level of performance. Its revamped rear suspension uses tubular control arms and double isolated springs and shocks that result in less unsprung weight and a more refined feel. A ducktail spoiler, elongated nose and revised front and rear fascias serve to give the GT a more sporting overall look. In the cockpit, all GTs get new sport seats and billet aluminum trim.

If you're in the market for a high-end roadster but don't like the idea of being just another SL500 owner, the Esperante GT is one of the few alternatives. Building on what is already a fun-to-drive performance car, the GT will no doubt be a thrill behind the wheel. It's nowhere near as refined as the Mercedes, nor are you likely to find a dealer near you, but when you want something original sometimes it requires just a little more effort. — Ed Hellwig
