Not Coming to America, But...
Geneva - The Opel Speedster concept is an open-top, mid-engine roadster. Based on underpinnings from the Lotus Elise, the Speedster is powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder aluminum engine that will soon find its way into Opel's midsize cars. It's no slouch of a motor, either, taking the little car from zero to 60 in less than six seconds. The car's interior offers the same confined and Spartan quarters as the Elise, but hey, it's the fun quotient that matters. As tantalizing as this small package may be, Opel says that General Motors has no plans to bring the car to America as a re-badged Pontiac, though a sporty reincarnation of the defunct Fiero, based on a Lotus, would be welcome by us.
