RUSSELSHEIM, Germany — Opel and sister brand Vauxhall will begin selling the new Astra Sports Tourer this fall in Europe, following its debut in late September at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.

The Sports Tourer joins the redesigned Astra hatchback that was released last December. The new wagon will be assembled in the U.K. at General Motors' Ellesmere Port plant.

The Sports Tourer shares the hatchback's 105.7-inch wheelbase but offers more load space and cargo-carrying capacity.

    Engine choices range from a 93-horsepower 1.3-liter ecoFLEX turbodiesel fitted with start/stop to a 138-hp turbocharged 1.4-liter gasoline four-cylinder.

What a great way for Buick to hit that younger target market in the USA. Bring us the Astra in all its forms the 5 door hatch and wagon. Get some efficent engines that have some HP this time and maybe even find some all wheel drive and Buick mite have me. I am a currant owner of a 2010 MazdaSpeed 3. Something similar with more room and cargo capacity would hit my sweet spot. To get that younger or younger at heart crowd ( I am 42 ) Buick needs to find new names or letter number combos.  Regal wont get me, to many memories of the 80's Buicks. Verano GT could work. Let get these to the states somewhere in the just between the VW Golfs and the Audi A4's. there is not much there. Opel, is putting out good products, I wish them luck and they as well could save Buick from the next round. Now sense Gemany doesn see fit to protect thier employment. Lets move some of that production to say Spain or Italy which could use it.

IMO, the problem with this car in Europe is that for the medium rung models, it has a higher (!!!) starting price than a middle-of-the-line Golf. So u are buying a Vauxhall/Opel over a VW.....

we don't even know if GM will bring the Insignia Wagon (Buick Regal Wagon) over, much less this one...

    Here's hoping they will.

    Aaah...Europeans are soooo lucky...
