2007 Noble M400
Here’s one for you: Name a mid-engined supercar that will hit 60 mph in less than 4 seconds, cover the quarter mile less than 12 seconds and stop from 60 mph in only 109 feet.
Easy, right?
There’s a handful of cars that can do that. Now figure in that this one cost less than $100,000, weighs about 2500 pounds and is powered by a breathed-on American V6.
It’s getting harder, right?
The answer is the Noble M400 which is sold in the U.S by 1G Racing in Hamilton, Ohio. And its performance is even more staggering than you’re thinking. Our test car hit 60 in only 3.2 seconds and blasted through the quarter mile in 11.4-seconds at almost 120 mph – making it easily the quickest accelerating car we’ve ever tested.
It also set a new slalom record at 79.4 mph and then ripped up the skidpad with a record 1.05g average.
These aren’t just good numbers; they’re world-class, besting cars like the Corvette Z06 and Porsche 911 GT3. putting the Noble in the same league as ultra-exotics like the Ferrari Enzo and Porsche Carrera GT.
Power comes from a turbochargerd Ford 3.0-liter V6. Boost is calibrated by Roush to peak a 12.5 psi – enough to generate 425 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed Getrag gearbox and Quaife (say Qwayf) limited-slip differential put the power to the ground.
Inside it's all business: the Noble steals switchgear from the Ford Mondeo, there are two carbon-fiber bucket seats with five-point harnesses and suede covering virtually every surface.
But the Noble isn’t a track-only special -- too stiff and too racy to be driven on the street. Quite the opposite, it has a far more comfortable ride than a Lotus Exige, and still gets better numbers on the test track.
Bottom line? The Noble is among the world’s quickest, best handling and most engaging road cars. Which isn’t at all what we expected.
