FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Nissan has rolled out the 2009 Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR for value-conscious shoppers who like the looks of the uplevel Sentra SE-R and Sentra SE-R Spec V models but don't want to spend over $20,000.
The 2009 Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR will start at $18,455, including a $695 destination charge, when it goes on sale on April 17. In comparison, the 2009 Sentra SE-R starts at $21,355, including shipping, while the top-of-the-line 2009 Sentra SE-R Spec V starts at $21,855, including shipping.
The new model adds exterior enhancements, including SE-R-style front and rear fascias, side sills and rear spoiler, a sport grille, dark chrome bezel headlights and dark smoked bezel taillights, 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, exhaust finisher and an SR trunk lid badge. Nissan said it will be available in six exterior colors, including the limited Sentra SE-R/SE-R Spec V colors. The cabin gets a charcoal cloth interior.
The Sentra FE+ 2.0 SR has a 140-horsepower 2.0-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine.
"We want to offer customers a range of choices within the lineup so they can find the perfect level of equipment, sportiness and performance to fit their needs and budgets," said Al Castignetti, Nissan Division vice president and general manager.
Inside Line says: This would be a more compelling package if the SE-R models were actually good-looking cars. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
