WASHINGTON — Nissan is recalling 7,365 2011 Rogues because of a defect in the electric power assist system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The circuit board may not have been installed in the correct position on certain electric power steering assist control units," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "This may cause additional stress on the solder of the terminal to the circuit board, resulting in the solder cracking and separating completely from the circuit board.
"As the circuit board fails, the power steering assist feature will stop functioning, increasing the force needed to steer the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash."
The recalled Rogues were built August 17, 2010 through October 30, 2010.
The recall is expected to begin sometime in December.
Nissan dealers will replace the electric power steering control unit. Owners can contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
Inside Line says: If you own a 2011 Nissan Rogue, be aware that a recall is in the works.

I read that as 7,365,2011 Rogues. That's a lot of Nissans to build in a couple of months. :-)
