As soon as the Nissan Qazana takes center stage in Genva, the word coupe instantly comes to mind. Look a little closer and it’s obvious there’s more to it than just another two-door compact. Nissan says the Qazana concept has been inspired by beach buggies and motorcycles, but there is something frighteningly familiar about a car that blends coupe and SUV. Maybe Nissan was at the beach for those few hours the Isuzu Vehicross was on sale, or maybe it thinks the BMW X6 has made the public ready for a blend of utlity and style that looks, well, unique. A double-hinged door allows access to the brick-color interior; the center console has been inspired by a motorcycle and, sure enough, it looks like the fuel tank and seat from a bike. This is clearly not a production ready car - its main goal is to look cool and draw crowds at auto shows. However, Nissan will be building a new baby SUV in the UK – and that vehicle could certainly have some of the Qazana’s design bits. The boomerang taillights look similar to those found on the new Nissan Z and the greenhouse mimics the same look found on other Nissan crossovers like the Murano. The grille is lifted from the Murano as well. We're not sure this is the kind of look we're after in a small crossover, but lets hope Nissan’s next small SUV has just a little of the Qazana’s day-at-the-beach attitude.
