LONDON — The new Nissan Pixo minicar will go on sale in early June in the U.K., priced from $8,800, the company said.
The five-door Pixo is a slightly modified and rebadged sibling of the Suzuki Alto (A-Star). Both models are built on the same Maruti Suzuki assembly line in Manesar, near Gurgaon, India.
Pixo will compete in the same A segment in European markets as the Toyota Aygo, the Hyundai i10 and other similarly sized commuter cars. Power comes from a 67-horsepower Suzuki 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, equipped with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. Fuel economy is expected to top 53 mpg on the European cycle.
Nissan will market the Pixo in the U.K. in three trim levels: Visia, Acenta and Tekna. The base model comes with dual airbags, antilock brakes, power steering, rear wiper and CD player. The top-of-the-line Pixo Tekna, priced at $12,500 with automatic transmission, includes side airbags and side curtains, power windows and locks, foglamps, stability control and air-conditioning with a pollen filter.
Nissan has no immediate plans to market the Pixo in the U.S.
