    What Is It?

    What's Special About It?

On the heels of launching the new extra-large Nissan Pathfinder Armada, Nissan opted to give the original Pathfinder a makeover as well. The 2005 Pathfinder now rides on an all-new platform based on structure used for the full-size Pathfinder Armada and Titan pickup.

With a standard 4.0-liter engine that produces over 250 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, the Pathfinder drivetrain easily hauls its fully boxed steel frame. Both 4x2 and 4x4 models now provide more passenger space up front and a third-row seat in back. The split second- and third-row seats fold individually to offer 64 different cabin configurations.

The new Pathfinder's larger body surrounds a comfortable interior that offers such amenities as a DVD-based navigation system, a DVD video entertainment system and a Bose audio system with a six-disc changer. Satellite radio through either XM or Sirius is also available as an option.

    What's Edmunds' Take?

Given that the current model has been competitive for years with few major improvements, this larger, more powerful version should have no trouble competing in this hotly contested segment. — Ed Hellwig
