GENEVA — The Nissan Esflow, an electric sports car concept that derives styling cues from the Nissan GT-R and 370Z, will make its formal debut at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show.

"The Nissan Esflow is a pure concept vehicle that captures the excitement of a sports car with the environmental benefits of an electric vehicle," said David P. Reuter, Nissan North America vice president of communications, in an e-mailed response to an Inside Line query on Wednesday. "We will be closely gauging consumer reaction to the vehicle as we further refine our zero-emissions strategy pioneered with the 100 percent electric Nissan Leaf."

Nissan said the Esflow, a rear-wheel-drive two-seater, was created to give "an idea how a zero-emissions sports car of the future might look."

"Living ecologically has often been seen as an act of austerity — to save one's environmental conscience, sacrifices must be made," said Nissan in a statement. "Esflow is here to address that misconception."

Exterior design cues include a wraparound windshield, a composite body over an aluminum chassis, six-spoke wheels with blue carbon inserts, a roof-mounted lip spoiler and a color scheme "inspired by glaciers," said Nissan.

The Esflow runs on two electric motors, each driving a rear wheel. Nissan said it hits 62 mph in under 5 seconds and can run more than 150 miles on a single charge. The concept gets the same laminated lithium-ion battery packs used in the Nissan Leaf, but they are located along the axis of the front and rear wheels.

All we need is another nissan. Well at least it will be awhile before they make more. Just read nissan closed four factories because of the quake.

    Be Proud. Buy American

@akula1 Um your argument is not strong. Jukiemcjuke does have a point. You do see resemblance in a lot of cars every now and then.
Now about this concept. In my opinion it looks too futuristic (but better than the leaf). Yea defintly takes z styling, and the front is like that one infiniti essence concept.
This car wont hit production, at least not looking like that.
PS>Its a shame that Nissan couldnt style the leaf a little better.

"@ akula1 - So, why don't you sketch us up a little something, eh? Remember, if it looks even remotely like any other car in history we'll make fun of it for not being original, and if it doesn't, we'll make fun of it for being too weird. Good luck! If someone held you to your own standards for just one day, you'd probably kill yourself!"

Hmmm, let's see.  The 370z looks like the 370z.  The Leaf looks like a Leaf.  The Aero X looks like an Aero X.  I guess I can take a step back from the ledge now.  By your standards everyone with an original design or thought would commit sepuku?  I think you see how dumb your argument is.  Then again you just might be blind, so.....

Ok, .... but if you treat it as a real sports car, you will probably get no more than 50 miles on a single charge, unless they develop a very sophisticated regenerative braking system.

This certainly looks better than the Leaf. One benefit I see from electric drivetrains is the return of RWD cars. The motor can be just as easily put at the back as the front, and maintain a well balanced chasis with the batteries off-setting the weight of the motor.

Build it and we'll forget that hideous Twig... er, Leaf you made. Finally, an electric with power, style, and some classic sex appeal!
