Nissan Adds Two Seats to the Qashqai

    1 Rating
LONDON, England — Nissan Europe is expanding its Qashqai range with a new seven-passenger variant called the Qashqai+2 — a move that should help it better compete with such rivals as the Toyota RAV4. The automaker plans the vehicle's formal unveiling in July at the 2008 London Auto Show.

Nissan calls the Qashqai+2 a "family crossover." The seven-seater was designed and engineered in Europe and will be manufactured in the U.K. at Nissan's Sunderland plant. The Qashqai goes on sale across Europe in October.

To accommodate the extra row of seats, Nissan has stretched the Qashqai's wheelbase by 5.3 inches and its overall length by 8.3 inches. The third row folds flat, and the large cargo area includes underfloor storage.

Nissan will offer the Qashqai+2 in two- and four-wheel-drive versions, with a choice of two gas and two diesel engines.
