2009 Tokyo Auto Salon: Nissan Teams with Autech and Nismo

TOKYO — The annual Tokyo Auto Salon is to Japan what SEMA is to the United States: a giant playground for tuners and manufacturers to show off the latest in custom cars and aftermarket parts. Nissan is there in spades, along with its Autech and Nismo affiliates, promoting hot new editions of the GT-R and the 370Z, among others.

As the show opens today, Nismo may have one of the most heavily trafficked corners, anchored by the GT-R Club Sports and the Fairlady Z (370Z) S-tune.

The GT-R Club Sports package boasts chassis upgrades, a titanium exhaust system and carbon bucket seats, all intended to enhance the car's performance on the motorsports circuit. The Fairlady Z S-tune package, which is being offered by Nissan's Japanese dealers, bundles a sport suspension, a structural body brace and an aero body kit.

Autech's performance-oriented Cube Rider features suspension modifications, a tuned engine and exterior add-ons.

Inside Line says: TAS may be sneaking up on SEMA when it comes to cool new hardware. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
