Nissan Recalls Murano and Infiniti EX35

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nissan is recalling 16,365 2008 Infiniti EX35 and 2009 Nissan Murano vehicles to correct faulty software in the passenger airbag control unit.

"Due to incorrect software programming, the airbag control unit may cause the passenger airbag not to operate as designed if the vehicle battery becomes significantly discharged," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in its summary of the problem. "This could result in the passenger airbag not inflating in a crash in which it was designed to do so, and increasing the risk of injury."

Nissan dealers will reprogram the faulty airbag control unit. The recall is expected to begin sometime this month. Owners of the affected vehicles can call Infiniti at (800) 662-6200 or Nissan at (800) 647-7261.

What this means to you: If you own one of the affected vehicles, have it checked out by your dealer ASAP. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
