FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Nissan has announced modest price increases on the 2011 Maxima and 2011 Sentra, both of which are on sale now at U.S. dealers, with few changes from the previous year.
The 2011 Maxima, which features new color and trim choices, climbs $120 to $31,560 for the Maxima 3.5 S CVT and $34,280 for the Maxima 3.5 SV CVT.
Nissan said it has "realigned" option package equipment on the 2011 Sentra, which starts at $16,270, up $100 from the 2010 model. The range-topping Sentra SE-R Spec V 2.5L with six-speed manual gearbox remains unchanged at $20,830.
All prices include a $750 shipping charge.

I wouldn't buy a Nissan at the old prices.
Just out of curiousity what would you buy? Certainly buy what you like, just try not to hate on those that choose to buy Nissans. I have been buying these cars for the last 18 years after buying several of what American automakers had to offer. (Dodge, Chrysler, Chevy Olds) I have had the least amount of issues or none at all with these cars and although "American" cars have made leaps and bounds as far as quality and reliability (even style) goes I would not buy one at this time. However, I do respect those that choose to buy American cars; there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! If someone told me that they would not buy a certain type of car based soley on its name or country of origin, but don't list a reason why then I would tend to wonder why bother posting a comment like that.

you make valid points. I have to say in it's defense, the Maxima is a decent car at that price, in fact most of the cars in that price range are about the same (price and option-wise.) If Nissan would have made this car rear wheel drive, then it would in fact be a real 4DSC. I have a 2010 SV w/ Tech and Premium package and it is a pretty nice car. My only complaint is that Nissan should have made it the 3.7 instead of the 3.5 V6 (considering the price) and made the engine a "twin induction" version (like the G37). then you have your 300+HP engine, rear wheel drive and your creature comforts inside.

Think of the Maxima as a plush Altima SR, which stickers at $24.5k (the 3.5SL was dropped). Throw a couple of options on the SR for a few grand, and you'd end up close to $30k, right inside the Maxima price range.
I'd say the G25/Maxima would be similar to the IS250/Camry SE and the TSX/Accord EX-V6. Maxima will fill the near-lux mid-size sedan niche and volume will reflect as such.

I love the look of the interior and exterior; however, the 290 HP VQ that Nissan bases every V6 off of is not put to its full potential due to a CVT and front wheel drive. If Nissan simply switched to rear wheel or AWD and got rid of the CVT and opted for a 7 speed dual clutch setup that they just adopted into the M, then this car would make sense at the price. It might even become the sports car that Nissan claims it to be, but right now as much as I am a fan of Nissan, this falls short and is not worth the price. Especially when I might as well opt of a Regal GS or TSX V6 instead. Even the skyline 250 aka G25 would be a better buy.
On a side note the Maxima and not the 370Z holds the DNA for all of the Nissan VQ engines.

The Sentra is still price competitive but the Maxima has a lot of comp in it's price range, not the least of which is the new Infinit G25

I agree, the maxima is too expensive. It must be so hard to sell the Maxima as you would suggest that it is a dynamic and somewhat sporty luxury car, with the 370Z engine and all, until you find out that it is front drive.

A quiet year for the Sentra and the Maxima..no kidding. They should have lowered the price of the Maxima because it was too high to begin with. Good luck trying to find a Sentra SE-R on a dealers lot in Georgia. They don't even place orders for the car anymore.
