DETROIT — Spy photographers caught the 2009 Nissan Maxima testing this week, just a month ahead of its scheduled debut at the 2008 New York Auto Show.

The seventh-generation Maxima will go on sale this fall, and 2009 engine options are expected to remain limited to a more powerful V6, although a new diesel option will be added a year later.

The 2009 Maxima will remain front-wheel drive, but it's likely to be a little bigger than the current model. As evidenced in the spy shots, the redesigned sedan will have a pronounced flat grille, although not much else can be determined due to the prototype's heavy camouflage.

Following the introduction of the much-anticipated 2009 Nissan GT-R and the all-new 2009 Nissan Murano, the new Maxima is part of a 12-product onslaught Nissan intends to roll out over the coming months.

What this means to you: Nissan is on a serious product roll, and it looks like the new Maxima is no exception. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
