FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Nissan began taking orders on Thursday for the 2012 Leaf in Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and New York, with the first deliveries to those states slated to begin in December. By the end of the year, the company also will open the Leaf order books to customers in Delaware, Indiana, Louisiana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
The 2012 Leaf is essentially a carryover model, with equipment upgrades.
Stickers start at $36,050 for the base 2012 Nissan Leaf SV, while the uplevel Leaf SL is priced from $38,100.
The higher prices on the 2012 model reflect added standard equipment, including quick charging, battery warmer, heated steering wheel and heated front and rear seats.
Inside Line says: Leaf owners now can share personal experiences on a new corporate blog called NissanLeafDrivers.com.

I wonder how well leaf sales are going to do up north with the coming winter. Seems like an odd time to start orders.

Depends on your definition of strong. These vehicles will remain more halo symbolism than volume leaders for quite some time. Hopefully, they push the technology forward and create more options for consumers.

The Leaf is my next purchase. I just need a commute car and I fly when I leave town. It will be nice not to spend $3000-$4000 in gas every year and no tune ups and oil changes. I have had Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Porsches and many other cars in the past but other than exclusivity I am not missing much and
no more massive depreciation and $1000 oil changes/checkups.
