    Just the Facts:
    • With the production pipeline finally starting to fill, Chevy's Volt continues to nibble away at the Nissan Leaf's year-long sales lead.
    • The Volt topped the Leaf in November sales, 1,139 units to 672.
    • Nissan still has the edge in cumulative year-to-date sales and is likely to maintain its lead for the full year.

DETROIT — With the production pipeline finally starting to fill, the Chevrolet Volt continues to nibble away at the Nissan Leaf's year-long sales lead, with the Volt topping the Leaf in volume in November, 1,139 units to 672.

Through the first 11 months, the electric Leaf still maintained a comfortable margin over the Volt hybrid of 8,720 units vs 6,142, according to the manufacturers' official sales figure for the year to date.

Although the Volt has outsold the Leaf for the past three months, Nissan is likely to maintain its lead for the full year, based on current sales rates.

Both companies have said their sales target for the year is 10,000 units. The Leaf may come close, but the Volt will almost certainly fall well short of that mark.

Inside Line says: There is always next year — when a variety of new rivals will enter the scene.

It's good to see that the Volt is now out selling the leaf. I felt certain that the Volt numbers would move to top place in this category. Way to go Chevy and GM! Keep up the fine work.

Hang on there zr1man, but this article would show that the Volt fell a tad short.

If I can decipher what you've written,

You've stated that faulty brakes and air bags don't pose a significant risk, which is utter crud. NHTSA confirmed it had no reports of fires from real-world crashes, but of course the tests are worthy of follow-up. To come across like some muck-raking reporter (what did you know and when did you know it") is bizarre. Of the dozens of recalls that have been posted this year, you have focused on the one brand and car that you have a distaste for and then offer tortured logic that that this recall is somehow different than the dozens of other recalls.

Your attempted side-step with the police example was particularly inept and off point. Why not just admit you are a Volt hater and that you will posit any argument to discredit it? It's no crime, there are many haters and fanboys out here. Our previous discussions have been simple: I've pointed out the advantages and disadvantages of the Volt, and you have only offered arguments (legitimate and not) to attempt to discredit it. If it's childish in your book for me to point that out , oh well.

    @ Tbone85

Subaru's recall is very differenct from GM's Volt recall. Like other recalls,Subara defects happend at least in one out of 10K cars on the road, which might involve many random factors. However, Volt's battery risk was exposed in NHTSA test lab 3 out 4 with normal test speeds, the risk of which is so obvious and significant and poses far greater danger to its oweners, mechanic and public. Why on the earth do you these two types of dangers are euqally comparable?

In addition, it sounds like you are very rediculeously childish when question me why I always singled out GM's volt.  You know, it sounds like the same question when you ask certain police why they focus on certain crimes, such as white collor crimes.

From my past experience, I have had neither any sort of intelligent nor truth-seeking conversation with you, so I am very much reluctant to converse with you. Sorry to say You seems not up to that kind of things .

QDP, should Subaru face a class action lawsuit because 32,000 of them have faulty brake pedals? How about Honda for producing 900,000 vehicles with faulty airbags? How long did those manufacturers know of these issues before acting? How long did they continue selling them without "proper information disclosure to prospective buyers"? Why is it that you only raise the issue of lawsuits about a GM product? You have been a consistently one note propagandist when it comes to this car, which reduces your credibility in asking these questions to below zero.

    "Chevy Runs Deep "

Not even sure what that means.  Glad you're happy but I bet the guys over at Toyota are getting a good laugh at the "battle" between the Volt and the Leaf for last place.

"Every year hundreds of thousands of gas cars catch fire and it's not even news."

But they don't do it 1 to 3 weeks later while sitting in the corner of a repair shop.... or back at the owners garage if it was repaired quickly and the battery damage wasn't found.

Whether or not it's a major problem may not matter anymore... the damage may already be done.  Public perception often exceed reality and meager sales may quickly become no sales.

Very few Pintos ever blew up but that's what it's remembered for.  Same could happen to the Volt.

The Volt is a hybrid.  Compare it to the sales of the Prius and that would make sense.  Compare the iMev to the Leaf.

Chevy failed big time with the Volt and their promises and claims so stop trying to make it look like their game plan is working.

It still absolutely amazes me that everyone in the media, whether it be here or elsewhere still continues to pit the (zero emission) leaf against a hybrid like the volt. I guess it is to put GM in the most pleasing light, (they are still losing). If you wanted to be factual a closer race would be the prius, or the ensight. But I realize the gap there would be astronomical. Since these cars already have a base and have been selling for a few years. It is also equally laughable that we pay so much attention to a supposed (halo car) that no one really wants to buy. they have sold 6000 units this year, come on. that's about 1000/th of a percent of there total yearly sales. Just a guess. What's the earth shattering deal here???
