Though, the Chevrolet Volt has been tagged as an "extended-range electric vehicle," by GM, but it splits the class of hybrid and electric. We've driven the pre-production Chevrolet Volt, and although our experience wasn't sufficient for a full-size road test, the Chevrolet Volt came out as a much better vehicle than what we were expecting, and an irrefutable engineering coup for GM.

Why would you compare sales figures when the Leaf & Volt aren't even sold yet?  The Sonata is a great leap from the previous generation, but lets not kid ourselves.  It's still a Hyundai and maybe thats enough for the new wave of fanboys.

Fortunately, NACTOY is voted on by journalists based on merit, not on how many PR minions GM throws at winning. Unfortunately, the panel seems to give close votes to vehicles made by the big 3. These awards have been won by some pretty mundane vehicles. Saturn Aura, Honda Ridgeline, anyone?

Let's hope the judges know the difference between an all electric vehicle and a wannabe from GM.

The Leaf and the Volt get all the ink, but the Sonata gets the actual sales.  If you live in an ivory tower, the Leaf/Volt will get your vote.  If you live in the real world and vote with your own dollars, then the Sonata wins.

How come there are no actual trucks on the Truck of the Year list?  The Mercedes R-Class, Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are certainly not trucks; but the Ford Raptor certainly is.  And so, too are the updated, heavy duty diesels from Ram, Ford and GM certainly are.  Yet the judges shunned them from consideration.

Going to venture a guess but I think the author meant to say - Hyundai Sonata...
