Spy Photos: Nissan GT-R V Spec on the Nurburgring

NURBURG, Germany — Unloaded earlier this week at Nissan's Nürburgring workshop, a Nissan GT-R V Spec prototype was caught flexing its muscle on the famed racing circuit.

Visual differences between the base GT-R and the V Spec are minimal, but there are a few telltale signs. The flat-black look of the carbon-fiber rear wing is clearly visible on the lightweight GT-R V Spec, as are the supercar's revised front air intakes. A new set of wheels and what look like ceramic brake rotors also allude to the V Spec's increased performance potential.

Although rampant speculation puts the V Spec's power in the 525-550 horsepower range, it's doubtful that Nissan's engineers have dialed in any particular settings just yet. This car is still a year away from production, so everything you see here is still in the early stages of testing.

What this means to you: A GT-R V Spec is definitely in the works, but getting your hopes up based on this prototype is a little premature. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
