LONDON — The 2012 Nissan GT-R Track Pack, a street-legal track-focused edition, debuted on Thursday — but not for the U.S.
"It's not coming here," said Dan Bedore, a Nissan Americas spokesman, in a phone conversation with Inside Line.
Bedore said the Track Pack will be sold in Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa. It arrives in March.
The Track Pack adds the U.S. equivalent of $15,642 to the price of the standard 2012 Nissan GT-R.
Nissan said in a statement that the "new version of the GT-R offers a harder edge."
The Track Pack adds such goodies as additional brake cooling ducts designed to reduce brake temperature by up to 100 degrees during track use and revised suspension spring rates.
It also gets lightweight six-spoke RAYS alloy wheels with gloss black painted centers, Recaro front seats trimmed with blue bolsters and a Track Pack badge. The rear seat has been deleted.
Nissan said the Track Pack edition has the same 544 horsepower as the standard 2012 GT-R, with a 0-60-mph time of 2.7 seconds.
Inside Line says: You'll have to admire this version of the GT-R from afar.

Track Pack or not, the R35 ($90K+) is an amazing car.
If one pulls up next to you at a light or on the track, unless you're in a Veyron SS ($2.1 million+), 911 Turbo S with Sport Chrono ($160K+), or an Aventador ($500K+), you goin' get smoked.

Talk about having misconceptions and/or being outright untruthful, where does newqx56owner get his information? It's not on the web or even on nissans/gtr website. If it was true, it would be posted and easily searchable on the web. And nissan would confirm. I think he makes this stuff up. We don't need his kind making comments like this.
The ZR1 is King of the Ring.

FYI -- new GT-R (on sale now in certain countries) does the ring in 7:16 It would destroy a ZR1. The target is of course the 911 Turbo - not some GM POS on roids.
****
The 2012/2013 Nissan GT-R will go on sale in early December 2011 for the UK, early 2012 for all of Europe, and November 24, 2011 for Japan.
Competition
With the new improvements for the Nissan GT-R, the battle between it and the Porsche 911 will be even more intense. Nissan already has a Nurburgring lap record of 7min 16secs, a full 8 seconds faster than its predecessor's time of 7:24. The GT-R seems be in the lead right now, but a new 911 Turbo is just around the corner.

@hooklyn
"The ZR1 test DID have non-OE tires and roll cage, not sure about the seats though. And it was reported as having 647hp, not the OE 638hp figure..."
No, the ZR1 ran Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, which the car comes from the factory with starting in the 2012 model year. These tires are also optional on the Z06 now. If it comes from the factory that way, even as an option, it's OE stock. Porsche does the exact same thing - actually in the past, Porsche would run 'ring times with Sport Cup tires even if the model they were testing didn't come from the factory with them.
The roll cage was only for driver safety. There is no way any slight increase in stiffness from a roll cage would have any lap time improvement in a car like the ZR1. The C5/C6 Corvette chassis is one of the stiffest and strongest in the world. Putting a roll cage in an economy car chassis will have a huge improvement in chassis stiffness, but a roll cage in an already stiff chassis will not make much of a difference.
The horsepower? That's rumor, and not fact, and you're complaining about a 9hp difference on a 638 hp car?? Really? That's a 1.4% difference. Factory engines can make +/- 3% horsepower differences from their rated hp, and still be in spec. Differences in ambient air conditions can make at least that much power difference from baseline alone.

And the Truth Will Set You Free
A few individuals commenting this column are under misconceptions or are being outright untruthful. I must set the record straight. So...........
Just the Facts
Latest Official Nürburgring numbers for:
2012 ZR1 7:19.63 on June 9, 2011
2012 Z06 7:22.68 on June 23, 2011
2011 gtr 7:24.22 on 1 October 2010
That's right the ZR1 and little bro Z06 both beat the gtr. It just couldn't keep up. No ands, ifs or buts.
These gtr times are posted all over the Internet. This 7:21 time for the gtr can not be offically referenced or verified and has been denied even by nissan spokesman Nobukazu Tanaka, who said, "In October there have been GT-R test runs on the Nürburgring, as part of the many tests for the final trial of the 2012 model year GT-R. We have no official announcement of a time trial or the results of the test run at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Video scenes which had been taken on the circuit had been broadcasted through consumer generated media,"
When the ZR1 ran it was completely stock. The only exception was some safety equipment and a two way radio. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure Tires are Original Equipment and are available on the car, from the factory. Check the Corvette website.
As most know the ZR1MAN has a high degree of credibility. Check these facts out, as much as you want. It's the truth, the whole truth, and noting but the truth. Don't let others mislead you.
The ZR1 is King of the Ring.

I am not particularly fond of either car though. These are just the facts.
My $100k-$120k would go towards a 911 or R8 if I were inclined to buy a car similar to these.

The ZR1 test DID have non-OE tires and roll cage, not sure about the seats though. And it was reported as having 647hp, not the OE 638hp figure...
And for what it is worth a 100% OE 2012 GT-R was just a mere 1.37 seconds (0.3%) off that NON-OE ZR1 time...
7:19.63 vs. 7:21.00
And of course we all know the GT-R is $20k-$30k LESS expensive.
And adds AWD, a rear seat, and a tolerable interior...

I wonder if this car is being created solely for competition on the Nurburgring. It would be too expensive to bring it to the States but they need to produce it in low volumes for it to be considered a production car and compete for the Nurburgring title...
Another example of the American car market getting the short end of the stick.
