Nissan GT-R Takes on Heroic Role as Nurburgring Firefighting Vehicle

BONN, Germany — Nissan said it wanted to give the Nürburgring a special thank-you for helping it develop its GT-R supercar. The result: a Nissan GT-R firefighting vehicle designed to speed to the scene of blazes and serve as an emergency response vehicle at the famous track.

Nissan said the GT-R firefighting vehicle, which carries an extra 440 pounds of equipment, is equipped with a fire-extinguishing system with water and foam onboard and attached to a hose pipe. The conversion is the work of M&M Automotive here.

M&M stripped out the GT-R's backseats and replaced them with a 13-gallon water tank that is secured with a roll cage. Other equipment includes a radio communication system, new Recaro sport seats and a roll bar.

Nissan said the GT-R firefighting vehicle still laps the Nürburgring in less than 8 minutes. The standard-issue GT-R laps the famous track in 7 minutes, 26 seconds.
