The 485-horsepower Nissan GT-R's average premium is $2,533. The 185-hp Hyundai Santa Fe's average premium is $832.
"Owners of the GT-R buy it for power and speed, and their driving habits will be reflected in frequent and expensive insurance claims," said Insure.com in a statement.
The 2009 Dodge Viper is the second most expensive vehicle to insure, with an average premium of $2,446, followed by the 2009 BMW M6, with an average premium of $2,236. In the number-four slot is the 2009 Ford Shelby GT500, with an average premium of $2,186, followed by the 2009 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, with an average premium of $2,088.
Korean vehicles were the least expensive to insure and occupied the top five least expensive slots, said Insure.com. The 2009 Kia Sportage occupied 2nd place, with an average premium of $840, followed by the 2009 Hyundai Entourage, with an average premium of $848. In 4th place is the 2009 Kia Sedona, with an average premium of $857, followed by the 2009 Kia Rio5, with an average premium of $870.
When all vehicles were averaged together, the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe ranked at the center, with an average premium of $1,169.
To compare rates, Insure.com said it used a driver profile of a 40-year-old single male who drives 12 miles to work.
