Nissan Evalia
What's Special About It?
Designed as a solution to the inevitable dilemma of finding a practical and spacious family car that's still fun to drive, the Evalia takes the traditional tall hatchback design and gives it a more shapely twist. Although it's taller than most current hatches, its long wheelbase gives it a more coupelike profile. Design details pulled from the 350Z lend additional punch to the Evalia's exterior while parallel-opening side doors add a unique element of practicality to this family vehicle. The interior is lit up via twin strips of glass in the roof along with various forms of indirect lighting designed to give the Evalia's interior manually adjustable "moods." A trackball-controlled system in the center console functions much like BMW's iDrive to give the driver control of the vehicle's various onboard electronics systems. One such system is an infrared rearview camera that can see objects or people moving behind the vehicle even in pitch-black darkness.
Why Should You Care?
The Evalia's smaller size makes it a likelier candidate for the European market, but with Nissan's growing market presence in the U.S. you can't completely rule it out as a future model. The idea of practical car that's still sporty-looking isn't exactly new, however, so whether the Evalia even makes it to Europe isn't assured by any means.
