Nissan Dunehawk concept
What's Special About It?
Following the recent introduction of the Pathfinder Armada, Nissan proves that it has anything but a passing fancy in serious SUVs. The Nissan Dunehawk concept vehicle is a seven-passenger, electronically controlled 4X4, designed to be an extremely capable off-road vehicle. With its ladder frame chassis, short front and rear overhangs and 20-inch wheels, the Dunehawk looks like it's ready to take on even the most adventurous outdoor escapades.
A cylindrical design narrow at the top and bottom, but wide at the middle for more elbow room makes the Dunehawk a comfortable passenger vehicle. Its doors open 90 degrees, allowing for easy access to both the passenger cabin as well as the cargo area. Special fittings in the rear make it simple to store mountain bikes and other sports equipment, and all seven seats can be folded flat electronically, allowing users to create versatile seating arrangements.
No door handles or sideview mirrors spoil the Dunehawk's exterior lines. Doors are electrically controlled by a push pad on the vehicle's fenders, rearview cameras replace mirrors with pop-up screens at both ends of the dash, and spotlights are integrated into its roof rails.
The cylindrical dash displays off-road gauges, including a compass, altimeter and inclinometer, and the cabin is loaded with lots of deep storage bins and overhead storage lockers that stow plenty of gear. Two vertical fixed sunroofs give the cabin an even larger feel, and the durable brown carpet is complemented by the attractive cream and brown leather interior.
Why Should You Care?
The Dunehawk could be the wave of the current Nissan Pathfinder's future. Full of family-friendly features, including a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, it would make a welcome prospective addition to Nissan's U.S. product lineup. Kelly Stennick
