SAN DIEGO — Nissan teamed up with the hit science fiction TV drama Heroes at the annual Comic-Con Convention and hosted a variety of activities, sweepstakes and giveaways inspired by the 2009 Nissan Cube. The automaker also gave away four of the new cars, which Nissan has been marketing as "mobile devices."

Tens of thousands of comic book and automotive fans experienced the new Cube at the booth, where the car was featured inside a life-size Heroes¬-branded toy package.

"Our partnership with NBC's Heroes at Comic-Con this year provided a perfect opportunity to show off the all-new 2009 Nissan Cube both on and off the screen. We were able to interact with thousands of attendees at the show, many of whom were just the people that would consider the Nissan Cube as their next 'mobile device,'" said Christian Meunier, Nissan marketing vice president.

Nissan also gave away four Cubes at the convention. Attendees just had to swipe their entry badges for a chance to win a Heroes-themed car designed by artist Peter Steigerwald, and 15,000 collector's edition comics with the Cube as a star were also given away, which featured four unique graphic covers. Nissan encouraged fans to collect them all.

The asymmetrical mini MPV has a standard 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable transmission or six-speed manual transmission. It has a "loungelike" interior, iPod and Bluetooth interface and an interior accent lighting package with 20 different colors.

The Cube is available now and starts at $13,990 for the basic 1.8-liter version.
