    What's special about it?
After dropping "Pathfinder" from its name in 2005, the 2008 Nissan Armada SUV finally received some real upgrades. Nothing major, mind you, just a slight freshening on the outside and some improved materials and options on the inside. Taken together, the upgrades should help make the Armada slightly more inviting for families who feel the need to drive an SUV of its considerable size and thirst.

Unless you're already intimately familiar with the front end of the current Armada, you're not likely to notice the changes made for 2008. The grille dips deeper into the bumper and the gap between the two has been tightened up considerably. Revised headlights move the turn signals up a little higher and the wheel arches blend into the front fascia more smoothly than before. Look hard enough and you might even notice the body-color trim and one-piece roof rack.

More substantial changes were made to the Armada's insides. The dash is no longer an uninterrupted expanse of gray plastic, as chrome accents now grace many of the control knobs. On top-of-the-line LE models, wood grain trim is also an option, if not an improvement. A new power-folding 60/40-split bench seat has also been added to the LE options list.

Technology is slowly creeping its way into the Armada as well. You can get real-time traffic on the navigation system, an onboard hard drive for storing music and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with an 8-inch screen. There's also Bluetooth connectivity, keyless ignition and a Bose sound system that provides speakers for those banished to the third-row seat. If you have the money, the Armada has the features.

Nothing changes under the hood as all Armadas continue to use Nissan's 5.6-liter V8 and a five-speed automatic transmission. With 317 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque, the Armada justifies its 9,100-pound tow rating.

Pricing for the 2008 Armada will start at $35K.

    What's Edmunds' take?
A little plastic surgery on the outside hasn't done much to improve the Armada's odd styling. A more refined interior should help the Armada attract buyers. — Ed Hellwig, Senior Editor
