WASHINGTON — Nissan is recalling 20,000 2011-'12 Altimas because a loose bolt could affect vehicle handling, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The transverse link bolt may not have been torqued to the proper specification," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "This condition could cause the bolt to become loose while the vehicle is being driven, creating a rattling noise and vibration.
"If the bolt comes out completely, the driver may experience difficulty controlling the direction of the vehicle, which could result in a crash."
Nissan dealers will replace the transverse link bolts and nuts and tighten them to the proper torque specification. The recall begins today. Owners can contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
The affected vehicles were built at Nissan's Canton, Mississippi plant.
Inside Line says: If you own the 2011 or 2012 Nissan Altima, have it checked out ASAP with your dealer.

Some dealers have not received the parts for this recall yet, so you may want to change that to "call your dealership."
