2008 Geneva Auto Show Preview: Morgan LifeCar

    0 Ratings
GENEVA — We first brought word of the Morgan LifeCar nearly a year ago, when the quirky British specialty-car builder announced it would display the prototype of its new "zero-emissions vehicle" at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show.

Now Morgan has released additional images of the car, which is based on the Aero 8 and will use a hydrogen fuel cell to generate electric power, with a projected 200-mile range. The company proclaims that the LifeCar's "combination of performance, range and fuel economy will allow a sporting driver of the future to demonstrate a concern for the environment."

Among the collaborators on the project is Linde, a German engineering firm that is the world's largest supplier of industrial gases — and also happens to be run by Wolfgang Reitzle, former BMW executive and head of Ford's soon-to-be-dismantled Premier Automotive Group.

Linde's BOC Group, which is based in the U.K., is heading development of a hydrogen refueling plant.

What this means to you: Somehow, a partnership with Morgan seems like a bit of a comedown for the high-flying Reitzle. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
