Mitsubishi Raider Set to Ride into the Sunset

CYPRESS, California — Mitsubishi is dumping its midsize Raider pickup, Inside Line has confirmed.

"We're not renewing the contract with Chrysler," said Mitsubishi Motors North America spokesman Maurice Durand. "There is no pickup planned to replace it."

Chrysler supplies the Raider — a rebadged Dodge Dakota — to Mitsubishi. Durand said the 2010 model year will be the final one for the pickup.

"But, given the supply issue, consumers will be able to get them for awhile," he noted. "If you're itching for a Raider, you won't have to panic. And service down the road will be supported."

Chrysler has been supplying the Raider since 2005.

Mitsubishi sold just 2,935 Raiders in 2008, a drop of 64.5 percent from 2007.

Inside Line says: With the pickup market as depressed as it is, there's little surprise that the Raider is going away. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
