Mitsubishi Montero Evolution
What's special about it?
This beast was defined by the Mitsubishi folks as a high-performance SUV. Inspired by the grueling Paris to Dakar rally race, the Montero Evolution boasts a fastback roofline for an aggressive look. Also adding to the 'tude are the bulldog nose, slatted rear side windows, alloy rear wing and massive 22-inch tires.
The concept's hardware includes a 3.5-liter V6 with MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve lift and timing Electronic Control). Though power output wasn't disclosed, we'd bet it would be in the area of 240 to 260 horsepower. The four-wheel-drive system incorporates a stability control system dubbed AYC (Active Yaw Control) as well as an active center differential called ACD.
Though details on this concept were skimpy at best, Mitsubishi officials stated that the Montero Evolution is not necessarily a forthcoming model but more an indication of where Mitsubishi is heading in terms of design philosophy.
Why should you care?
If you want Mitsubishi to produce a radical, two-door SUV, let them know. But even still, chances are this outlandish turntable queen will never see the inside of a showroom. — John DiPietro
