Confirmed: Mitsubishi To Bring Lancer Sportback to U.S.

TOKYO — Mitsubishi has already released photos of its Prototype-S, a near-production-ready concept of the new Lancer Sportback, which will debut at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show on March 4. Today the Japanese automaker confirmed plans to bring the new Sportback to the United States. Previously, Mitsubishi only committed the new Sportback to the European market.

The Lancer Sportback draws on the Lancer Evolution's exterior styling cues, adding a deep liftgate and wraparound taillamps. The concept rides on 19-inch low-profile tires and five-spoke alloy wheels.

What this means to you: The Lancer Sportback goes on sale later this year in Europe, but no word yet as to when it will hit U.S. showrooms. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor
