2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution RS
What's Special About It?
This is the Evolution in its rawest form. Already a legitimate track car in standard trim, the Evolution RS pushes the performance envelope even further by stripping off all unnecessary parts to reduce its curb weight to an absolute minimum. Gone are the stereo, air conditioning system and power mechanisms for the windows, locks and mirrors. The trim for the trunk was also 86'd along with the vanity mirrors, assist handles, map lights and even the leather covering on the parking brake handle. The exterior of the car is defined by the absence of a rear spoiler as well as black door handles and halogen headlights in place of the standard model's HID units.
The result of this crash diet is a car that weighs 150 pounds less than the standard Evo. Couple that with a new limited-slip differential in front and an additional cross bar in back and you have yourself one serious street machine or the basis for a bona fide rally racer. Regardless of the way you set it up, the Evolution RS is not likely to let you down when it comes to delivering a turbocharged thrill ride with few equals.
Why Should You Care?
If you live in a hot climate or you think that power windows are one of the best inventions of the 20th century, this isn't the car for you. But for those who yearn for the utmost performance for the least amount of money the RS is it. Ed Hellwig
