Clearly this test mule is little changed from the Prototype X shown in Detroit earlier this year. Even with full camouflage the distinctive shape of the nose is still visible and the car's overall profile hasn't been altered. A new set of headlights is the only major styling change and they look well integrated into the Evo's new front end. Foglights have been added and the opening for the front-mounted intercooler is fully opened up.
Production-spec side mirrors have replaced the razor-thin pieces used on the concept, but the rest of the exterior sheet metal is relatively unchanged. There's still a tall trunk section with a sizable wing, although we noticed it was removed when we caught the same prototype later in the test session. The only other notable change was a switch to 18-inch wheels in place of the concept's set of 20s. Don't worry, though. The tires still measure 245/40 so it has plenty of rubber at each corner.
According to our shooters, the Mitsubishi engineers didn't look finished with their testing just yet, so stay tuned for more footage in the coming days.
